Chicago Fed Challenge Info Session  (Student Events)

Each year Michigan State University sends a group of students to compete in the Chicago Fed Challenge. This is a team competition in which undergraduate students prepare a presentation about the state of the US economy and respond to questions from a panel of judges. Teams analyze economic and financial conditions and formulate a monetary policy recommendation, modeling the Federal Open Market Committee. The Economics Department funds this trip and we are now recruiting a team for 2013 competition which takes place in October/November.

Preparation takes place mainly in the Fall Term and Independent Study credit may be obtained for participation. The team will be assisted by faculty members from the Department of Economics and will also receive feedback from distinguished alumni including Bob Goodman (former Managing Director of Putnam Investments) and Robert Rasche (former Senior Vice President of the St. Louis Fed).

In the past, the team has remained in Chicago for an extra day to tour the Chicago Fed. This year, the Economic's Department will try and arrange for an additional tour (perhaps Goldman Sachs or Incapital). Participants should have completed coursework in macroeconomics and/or financial markets (for example, EC 252H, EC 302 or EC 330). A flyer is attached with additional information. An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27th at 7pm in 114 Berkey Hall. If you are interested but cannot attend the meeting, please contact the student leader, Karl Parker, at Parke258@msu.edu
